Hiring: Library Clerk
We are looking for a Library Clerk.
This is a term position with funding for a maximum of 350 hours for a minimum of 10 weeks (35 hours/week) or to a maximum of 20 weeks (17.5 hours/week). Start date is October 11th and the latest end date is February 26, 2022. A wide variety of work schedules/times are available including the possibility of working 12 hours/week for 20 weeks (240 hours).
Funding for this program is provided by the Government of Canada which provides wage subsidies to employers from not-for-profit organizations, the public sector, and private sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees, to create quality work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years. All youth aged 15 to 30 years may be eligible participants.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve patrons and visitors of the Library by assisting them in person, via telephone, and through e-mail to:
· Locate Library material and information
· Research and answer questions
· Borrow Interlibrary Loan books
· Photocopy, scan, and fax
· Provide basic computer assistance to community members as required
Use Integrated Library System (ILS) (Insignia) to carry out general procedures for the effective circulation of Library material by:
· Assessing charges for lost and damaged materials
· Keeping membership information up-to-date by registering new patrons and renewing expired Library memberships
· Assisting with inventory and weeding of Library
· Checking Library materials in and out following prescribed procedures
· Deleting records on lost or discarded Library material
· Making recommendations for deletion of records for lost or discarded Library material
· Placing reserves on books for patrons
· Calling patrons about overdue Library material and reserves
· Processing Library material for circulation
· Carrying out procedures for overdue Library material including checking shelves, contacting patrons, and (if applicable) receiving fines
Use Square Terminal to track payments and issue receipts upon request
Provide assistance with the implementation of programming (in-person and/or virtual)
Work to ensure general appearance of the Library is always neat and tidy by:
· Ensuring all items are in place
· Shelves are faced/clean/orderly
· Chairs are properly arranged
· Library material is properly shelved
Assist with meeting room rentals by:
· Ensuring meeting room/equipment user signs appropriate form
· Receiving meeting room deposit (if required) is taken
· Receiving payment and/or arranging for invoice to be sent
· Issuing keys for meeting rooms as necessary
· After meeting room usage, checking room and WII condition
· Putting tables up and putting them away
Inform Librarian when office and cataloging supplies are low
Assist with carrying out routine office procedures to ensure efficient operation of the Library
